Goa can be as budget-friendly or as expensive as you make it, and a bit of planning goes a long way in keeping costs down.

Time Your Trip Right

Travelling just outside the peak winter season, in early November or late February, often gets you similar weather at noticeably lower hotel and flight prices compared to the December to January rush. Weekday travel instead of weekends also helps, since hotel rates in Goa swing quite a bit between weekdays and weekends, especially in popular beach areas.

Choose Stays and Activities Wisely

Staying slightly away from the busiest beach strips, like Baga or Calangute, usually gets you better rates without losing much convenience, since Goa is compact and easy to get around. Free or low-cost activities like beach walks, local markets and Old Goa's churches can fill a good part of your itinerary without adding much to your budget, leaving more room for the experiences you actually want to spend on.

  • Travel just before or after the peak winter season
  • Book weekday stays instead of weekends where possible
  • Stay slightly away from the busiest beach strips
  • Mix free sightseeing with a few paid activities
  • Book cabs or scooters in advance rather than last minute
